Which system is right for me?


Price, display screen size and the number of available serial ports are typically the most important issues when choosing a GRT EFIS system. The HXr adds a new dimension to the decision process, with a simpler user interface, the ability to remotely interface with certain radios and transponders, and connectivity with Android devices.


GRT systems are openly compatible with many third-party devices such as radios, GPS units, and ADS-B receivers. The Horizon series has the most serial ports and internal ARINC module for easy compatibility with IFR GPS systems such as the Garmin 430/530.  


The Sport system is the lightest and simplest, with internal AHRS and optional internal GPS. While it is capable of IFR flight when paired with appropriate navigation equipment, it is ideal for VFR homebuilts and Light Sport aircraft.


In any case, the number of display screens can double or even triple the number of available data ports for interfacing equipment. All systems intended for IFR flight must be designed with a solid plan for redundant attitude, electrical and navigation systems.
