Re: Upgrading to aural warnings

No OSH for me. Too many people! Find out where the nearest EAA chapter is, join it if it’s close. You’ll meet local people who like to help, someone there will surely know how to do this job. Also simple things like changing the oil/oil filter, cleaning gapping spark plugs, etc. The chapter may have...

Re: Upgrading to aural warnings

Joel, For better or worse you now own an experimental airplane. This job is really simple, but you can always take it to an avionics shop and pay them. Are you anywhere near San Francisco? If yes come to LVK and I’ll show you how to do this in just a few minutes. I have d-sub pins, a crimper, and wi...

Re: Warning limits

Just my method: For your example, I’d set the EFIS warning (flashing red cht display) to 230, and the EIS red warning light to 260. Interpretation: efis flashes red, need to think about doing something. EIS red light comes on, need to act now.

Re: Multiplexing standby frequency selection serial out/in

Generally speaking connecting two ‘outs’ to one ‘in’ is asking for trouble. What happens if both ‘outs’ send signals to the ‘in’ at the same time?

Re: Utility of internal IFR Approach option on 10.1

This is meant as a reply to webutler, and I apologize for its length. A little history: Decades ago, nav receivers in part 91 operations had no TSO requirements. The FAA was more laisez-faire. Indeed, King rather famously sold two nearly identical DMEs, one more expensive and TSO’d, the other with n...

Re: Experience with Touchscreen on 10.1

Me again. I have no experience with the GRT touchscreen. However, I frequently fly right seat as a cfii in a local club’s aircraft with a Garmin 650. I very much dislike it. Of course I have to operate it with my left hand (I’m very right handed) but even so, and I do try to rest my hand on the litt...

Re: Utility of internal IFR Approach option on 10.1

My opinion would be, save your money. GRT clearly notes that the internal option is legal only during vfr operations. I think grt hoped that this unit would receive the same treatment from the faa that they gave to ADSB position sources: ‘Must meet the performance standards of the applicable TSO, bu...

Thanks for posting. There's something to be said for being inside a metal airplane!

Re: Trig TT-22 with GRT HX

If you read all of note 2 it goes on to say ‘connect a 2020 compliant gps here’. Confusing, but yes, your answer is that for adsb out you need a direct connection (rs232) from your gps to pin 5 on the adaptor. Don’t forget a ground connection, too. The reason for this is that the adsb position speci...

Re: HXr altitude readout fluctuation with PTT radio

Your symptoms strongly suggest you are getting a lot of RF in the cockpit from your com transmitter. Carefully check that (1) the coax connectors are properly seated at the radio and antenna, (2) the connectors themselves are properly attached to the coax, (3) antenna grounding screws are grounded, ...
