Terrain data for synthetic vision

Post by TONYBISHOP »

I'm installing my new HXr system, and about to order Jeppensen data for navigation (I'm outside the US). Where does the HXr find its terrain data? If it's from Jeppesen, is it in the basic VFR navdata, or do I need the obstacle data as well?

The "terrain" (elevation) data is only available from GRT and our systems don't support any third party data. We have free terrain data for much of the world. The obstacle data is part of the navigation database, so you would have to get obstacles in your Jeppesen NavData coverage if you want them. In the past they had separate coverage options for each area with and without obstacles: VFR, VFR + Obstacles, IFR, IFR + Obstacles.
