Hey, folks I really appreciate your comments and or recommendations; however, you missed an important note that I made in my earlier post.

I know the HX and HXr have internal ARINC connection capability. That's not the issue. What happens when there are insufficient ARiNC 429 channels to accommodate the equipment one has installed in his/her aircraft? You purchase the external ARINC 429 module. Right? That's what I did.

I have the following equipment installed that requires ARINC 429 channels:

1. Garmin 400W - requires ARINC 429 channels (don't want to go in to the details of this requirement, but suffice to say it uses channels I need to affect interface with my TruTrak Autopilot).

2. Garmin GTX 330es Transponder. It also requires ARINC429 channels. Fortunately, I had sufficient RS 232 serial ports available and thus negated the ARINC 429 Channel requirement.

3, TruTrak Vision 385 Autopilot. This component requires both ARINC 429 Channels, and a RS 232 Serial Port in order to take advantage of the equipment's full capability.

THEREFORE, THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT ARINC 429 CHANNELS AVAILABLE IN EITHER A HX OR HXr TO ACCOMMODATE MY INSTALLED EQUIPMENT

Jeff,
I know yu don't remember this, but months ago when I was contemplating purchasing a Garmin GPS 400W you and I had a telecon ref the TruTrak interface with the HXr interface. You informed me that I would have to purchase a ARINC 429 External Module to handle both pieces of equipment. Well, that's what I did.

Now I want to know how to affect the interface between the HXr and the ARINC 429 external module. That's all.

George

Please, no shouting.
Go to the GRT web site, support, EFIS, Hx; go down to the third sample wiring diagram. This is similar although not exactly your set up. I suspect that what you’re missing is that a single ARINC output can feed multiple ARINC inputs. The input device will just disregard commands that aren’t for them.

A quick thank you to all who posted comments and or information. Greatly appreciated. Just one final comment on this issue.

If you wish to install a Garmin series 400, 420, or 430 and a TruTrak Vision 385, integrated through the HX or HXr so as to take full advantge
of the Vision 385's full capability, you're out of luck. Both of these systems require ARINC 429 A and B out channels and HX and HXr
have only one set. One can still use a RS232 serial port interface, if available, providing NMEA-0183, Garmin Aviation Format, or
Apollo/UPSAT Moving Map or GPSS format. Thus providing directional reference to the autopilot. But that's all.

Did you read my post, above yours? I have a 420W and a Trio (needs ARINC-in), similar to your set up, all on one HX. The single ARINC-out (it’s a pair of wires, doesn’t use the common ground) can be hooked to both arinc-in on the 420 and Arinc-in on the autopilot (unless they demand different speeds? Seems unlikely).

Thanks gang for your comments and or recommendations. Looks like I'm stuck without a fully capable TruTrak. Dang!

Oops! Sorry Bob. Missed your last.

The issue with TruTrak is that it requires A&B 429 OUT from the HX and or HXr. This configuration gives the autopilot the capability do anticipated turns when flying a GPS IFR approach so one doesn't overfly the initial approach fix to final approach course.

Please go back about 5 posts and re-read. The GRT web site, under “support”, “EFIS”, “HX”, shows the wiring diagram you need to hook up BOTH a 430W and a TruTrac autopilot to a HX (HXr is the same) with a single ARINC output.
One output can go to two inputs. I have one HX, one 420W, and one autopilot (which needs ARINC input) so I can assure you that this does work. Contact Jeff to return the external ARINC module, and wire it up as shown in the above reference.

A single ARINC-429 output channel is designed to connect to up to 20 input channels at the same time. Connect the ARINC-429 output from the EFIS to both the TruTrak ARINC input and the 400W ARINC input. We don't have extra pins in the connector so you have to connect all the matching A's and B's together somewhere in the middle. This is the standard and recommended way to do it and we have tons of systems wired this way.

Okay, guys, thanks for the input. Looking fwd to getting this done.

Jeff, I mailed the 429 external module to GRT yesterday for a refund.
