HXr-GTN650-TruTrak Help Needed

I need some help figuring out how to use the 3 above.
I have figured out how to load approach in the 650, arm the autopilot and fly the RNAV approach.
What I can't get to work is when I load and activate a hold at the IAF.
The 650 suspends the approach when a hold is activated.
At this point do I still go to the EFIS, arm the autopilot then hit execute to fly the hold?
I have AP in HDG/Alt mode when I arm it for the approach.
Even with the 650 showing the approach suspended I can't get AP to fly the hold.

Confused and looking for some help.

I have a Trio, not a TT, so slightly different. When controlling the autopilot from the EFIS, I never touch the autopilot, other than to turn it on and engage the servos. The Trio defaults to ARINC inputs. I think with the TT you may have to tell it, somehow, to use the ARINC inputs. Put the autopilot mode on the Hxr to "GNAV". I think only that mode will do the holding. If you have loaded the approach, do not hit execute until you are ready to proceed inbound from the hold. On the inbound leg, push execute, and, also, take the 650 out of the hold mode.

Thanks Bob, will try the GNAV and see what happens. Makes sense since EFIS only makes switch
when execute is hit.

Saw your reply on vaf, glad it works. I think what’s going on is the efis doesn’t have the holding pattern data, only the gps does. In GNAV mode that data is passed thru directly to the autopilot.

That is correct. GNAV mode passes the lateral autopilot commands from the 650, and the 650 knows how to fly the hold. The EFIS doesn't receive any information about holds or any other types of turns. You should not press EXECUTE until you are ready to capture the final, straight approach segment down to the runway. If you EXECUTE and the EFIS sees the lateral deviation signal is within range it will capture it and try to fly a straight approach segment. If you push EXECUTE too early, the EFIS may capture and turn onto the final approach early, before other parts of the procedure are complete.
