programming serial ports

Post by eagerlee »

I will have a dual HXr and will use a Garmin GTN650 for my gps input. I think the HXr is capable of sending the gps location to the transponder for ADS-B 2010 compliance. Can I use an HXr serial output to send my GPS location to a 406mhz ELT? It looks like the ACK e04 ELT has gps interface connectors.

For the 2020 ADSB-out compliance, the gps source must meet TSO standards, so I think you need to wire a GTN serial out directly to your mode S-ES (or UAT) transmitter. Yes, you can wire an HXr serial line to the ELT. Not required but a good idea.

I have a wire from GTN650 pin 5. RS232 out 4 (ADSB) directly to my transponder.
