Hx serial vs arinc429

Post by Norcalrv7 »

I'm in the process of upgrading from a WS efis to a HX+ grt autopilot. The efis is currently interfaced with a Garmin 480 via serial connection. I'm wondering specifically what added functionality I will gain by converting to an arinc 429 connection between the two.

Thanks!

You want to hook up two ARINC 429 connections from the 480 to the HX and one from the HX to the 480. The two out should be set to vor/ils and gama 429. The in connection should go to the #2 429 in port on the 480 and set the 480 to EFIS. All "low" settings.

This will give you GPSS steering and vertical nav for LPV approaches as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Leave the serial connections in place.

You are not going to believe the difference going from the old WS processor and no ARINC to the new processor of the HX and the addition of the 429 connections. Enjoy.

Essential.
