GRT Avionics

Have their been any updates on this post? I have a pair of the original Horizons and need to make a decision on either the G 330-ES or the G-345. Will these work with the early Horizons?

Is there some reason you are limiting yourself to these two choices? The 330 is rather old technology now. Worse, they're both absurdly over-priced. Street prices on Trig (TT-22 or -31) transponders are running around $2200 (TT-22), and they definitely will "read" the altitude from a GRT box. They also will read gps data from a Garmin certified box (4xxW or GTN series) using ADSB+ format, or the new GRT $500 gps box.

As for the 330, my thought it to get a used one and send to Garmin to upgrade it with the ES. They are getting very good prices for them now (under $1000 on e-bay). $1500 for the ES upgrade. You will have a better box that the Trig TT31.
We have 2 GRT Horizons, G430W, Ipad with Foreflight and a Stratux. I would prefer the 345 though as I can then not have to worry about the Stratux. The down side is the price...

This is, of course, your opinion, unsupported by fact.
TT22 is a fine box, cheaper than the used 330ES, lighter and smaller. Use the 430W as the GPS source. Buy any of a number of ADSB-in boxes for around $500.

I am not in this thread to discuss with you which box is better. If you want to use the Trig, go have fun. If you read the title of this thread, it is about the GTX 345 - ADSB IN. I am looking for an update from Greg if there is any on the latest with this particular box. If you can't provide that, then please stop wasting my time.

The current information I have is as-predicted. The EFIS can send altitude data to the 345, and should be able to receive ADS-B traffic from it, but we can't get weather from it. That is what I've been telling everyone for months and no one has told me otherwise. You would have to keep using your Stratux to get weather into the EFIS.

I finally have confirmed ADS-B IN traffic and weather data from a GTX 345 using its RS-422 output and an EFIS with RS-422 input. The baud rate is 115200 and the menu option in the 345 is "OPT LGCY ADSB".

It looks like you can connect this to an RS232 input using GTX345 P3252 pin 12 (RS422 B). That has not been tested.

Joe has reported that an RS-232 connection from RS422 B pin 12 is working.
