Equipment: SL-30 and the HX
What are the configuration settings for the SL-30 and the HX when using serial in and out to communicate between these two systems.

For the HX, just set the serial in and out ports to "SL30".
In the SL30's internal set up menus, there are some choices depending on how you want the SL30 to respond to a loss of communication with the HX. The settings are in the SL30 manual.

If the SL30 is your only NAV receiver, configure the serial ports in the HX for SL30-1 in and out and a serial rate of 9600. If you have another NAV receiver, you can use SL30-2 to set the SL30 as your 2nd NAV receiver (NAV2).

The defaults will work for your installation.

In the SL30, you can set the head type to SERIAL or NONE. If you set it to SERIAL, the HX completely controls the OBS and the SL30 will flag if the HX OBS data is not received. If you set it to NONE, both the HX and the SL30 knob can be used to set the OBS, but the data will not be flagged if the SL30 stops receiving the HX OBS.
