I had G430-1, GPS2, and NAV2 as selections. The GPS1 Flight Source was set to external. The NAV Mode Source was also set to external.

Hopefully, I'm all set! I'll fly some practice approaches with the G430W selected while the 430W is set to GPS and the next one set in VLOC mode. Then I'll fly one with the NAV2 selected.

Guessing that the internal GPS is most likely not approach certified or WAAS enabled, what functionality does it add or back-up?

Results after the test flight!

Thanks!

Flew on Sunday - my Wife wanted to go for a ride....

I was able to check out the SL-30 NAV and 430W GPS and NAV units - looks like it works as advertised.

Now I can get back to my IFR training since I have a working HSI...just need to master the switchology!

It's a basic WAAS-enabled GPS, like most GPS units these days. Since it's not designed for IFR or approach specifications, it's only useful as a VFR or backup position source.
