Servo Gain and Damping setting start points

Post by jbasol »

So I've finally gotten around to installing my GRT autopilot servos and am now ready to start the airborne portion of the calibration procedure. The install guide says to use the Servo Response Test page to set the servo gains first. It says the objective is to set the gain as high as possible that still allows to the damping setting to prevent oscillations. This make sense, but it doesn't suggest what the starting values should be. Further in the setup process it specifies that when setting the AP gains, one should start at 100%. Should one also start at 100% on the servo gains (I assume this means one is working backwards from 100% then)??

Thanks!

Not necessarily. These are just numbers. You can try 200% as well as 50%.

You should start with 100%. The 100% values use the original values from developing the servo and autopilot controls in Greg's planes (mainly his first RV6). When adjusting the values, you are multiplying (increase above 100 or decrease below 100) the known good response for that particular plane and installation to adapt it to your own.
