Configuration Of Audio Alerts

Post by gdtrfb58 »

I have the appropriate wire connected and can hear a "ping" when there is an alert on my screen.

I have no idea how to configure verbal announcements and see no directions anywhere on the website. Can you point me to the configuration screen/set up instructions. I have been through all the menus, but see nothing.

On the main set up page, there are two volume settings, one below the other. One for tones, one for voice (or maybe master volume, I forget). Make sure both are turned up. I presume you've installed the audio file.

Just to be clear, you need to follow instructions found at:
<support>
<software updates>
<horizon HX software>
Look for "Changes and new features for HX" and follow the instructions for copying and loading the <alerts.zip> file into the HX.

Are these alerts from airliners at 35,000 feet?

You can set a filter for example to only show traffic that is =/-3000 (or whatever) feet of your altitude.
In that case if you are on the ground about to take off and there is something within two miles of you and less than 300 feet above, you would hear about it and maybe WANT to hear about it.

The other think that I did was add a potentiometer to the output before it went into the audio panel. I can turn it down or even OFF when desired.

I am getting alerts for Aircraft in the pattern. It would seem that you should be able to suppress the audio alerts below a certain airspeed.

One of the lesser known functions of the ADSB system is that it is designed to give warnings of impending taxiway collisions, or even wingtip to wingtip collisions between large aircraft on adjacent taxiways (that's why your wingspan is in the data stream). So you are not supposed to turn it off on the ground; instead your transmitter goes to 'ground' mode. I would hope that the GRT processing would filter out all traffic warnings from aircraft not also on the ground, when you're on the ground, but I don't know that it does or does not. GRT?

We don't filter traffic by speed or air/ground. The only filter is the user altitude setting.

Guys,
Where are these instructions now? The "new" how to load software document is the same for all the platforms, but doesnt include how to load the audio alert.zip file. Hows this done exactly?

Also, and I'm assuming, that if I change the .wav files to something I've created, all I have to do is replace the existing file (using the same name), re-zip it and load it per the instructions, right?

Thanks for any help.

Ok I figured it out, pretty obvious. So has anyone found a good free txt to wav that allows different voices etc?....free being the key here. I found a good site, but cant actually make .wavs on it.....

I know this is a bit old of a post, but I was playing around with Google TTS engine in python and created the following. It uses Male voices for most "alerts" and Female voices for most "navigation" files. I'd be curious if anyone can try these out and see how it works as my plane is just entering its annual.
