Hello! I want to link up a HXr to my GNC250 which has serial out and 429 in/out and a GTX327 transponder. What are the recommended setup for those two units into the HXr?
Do I hook up both the serial GPS output AND the 429 output into the HXr or is that redundant? Also can you spell out what serial channels are preferred for each unit?
I DO plan on upgrading to a TRIG ADS-B transponder and Skyradar D-2 unit...but not till next year, after some cash frees up!
THANKS!

Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
Matt
The preferred Serial port for the GPS would be port 3 or 4. But it really can be put into any one of the 8 serial ports. Any of the ports can be configured for anything that you need to.
The TXP is normally setup on serial port 7.
Here is the serial setup layout that is on the website.

Hope that helps

Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
GRTBen,
What about serial vs ARINC 429 outputs from the GPS...is there an advantage to connect both? I've never enetered a GPS path via the GNC 250 so I'll assume for a moment that if I enter my GPS legs via the EFIS I won't need the 429 input?

Look at the documents page, connections for an HX and a Garmin 300. I think you want all the same RS 232 and ARINC connections as shown there.
Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
Hi Matt, I'll leave the serial/ARINC questions to the people who've used them!
I can tell you we have a GTX327 supplement that will tell you how to wire and set that up. http://grtavionics.com/supplements.html
All the documentation you will find in the HX manuals about wiring and setup for the Garmin units will be the same for HXr. If the GNC250 is anything like the GNS430/530, you might find some answers for setting up ARINC connections in the supplement for the 430/530, also on that page.

Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
I noticed in the HX Setup Guide on page 2-9 it says:
Sounds like using ARINC 429 and RS-232 is redundant.NOTE: When both the analog, and serial outputs from a navigation receiver are wired to the EFIS, the EFIS will use, in order of priority:
1. ARINC 429 serial data
2. RS-232 serial data
3. Analog data

Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
Redundant? I think the answer is sometimes. But some information, like GPSS steering commands (if your gps sends them) go out only on the arinc line. If you want your gps's OBS function to work you need to tell it the HSI course setting. I think that requires an arinc connection into the gps.
Re: Preferred Serial/429 Connections for GNC250 and GTX327
Right, but I was thinking that if you had the ARINC connection then perhaps you didn't need the RS-232. However, looking at the 430 supplement it looks like you need both. Sorry if I jumped to a conclusion.
