Hall Effect Current Sensor settings

Post by tweetr »

I've searched the forums and read the Hall Effect Current Sensor documentation, and I still haven't found my answer:

What are the correct settings for Aux Scale Factor and Offet to sense 0 to 100 amps with the sensor mounted on the alternator output cable (no negative sensing needed.)

With no modifications to the input I am seeing 1.2 amps indicated, changing slightly as I turn high-current equipment on and off (landing lights, pitot heat.) I should be seeing in excess of 10 amps with these items on.

Thanks!

The standard 100 amp settings (forward sensing with scale factor 164 and offset 313) would not include a decimal place, so you'd want to set up that Aux input for Integer mode. That would mean it was actually indicating 12 amps instead of 1.2.

Okay, I set it to Integer.

Sitting on the ground with the engine off I was showing -4 amps, so I changed the Offset to 305 (equivalent to -153) to make the reading 0 amps.
Settings now:
Aux Function = Amp
SF = 164
Offset = 305
Sensing = Forward
Integer

If this rain will ever stop, I'll go fly it and check the results!

Yep! That worked. Now that I understand the formula better, I could make the amps display with a decimal point, but I agree that resolution is not really necessary. I'm really using the ammeter as an alternator loadmeter. Running about 21 amps in cruise, 33 amps with landing and taxi lights on. Not even stressing a 60-amp alternator.

Thanks for your help!
