GPS for Sport 10.1

New in 2019 this product is called the "10.1" after its screen size and is available in Horizon and Sport feature sets. This is not to be confused with an HXr although it shares similar features and graphics.

GPS for Sport 10.1

Post by JimB »

We're considering a Sport 10.1 for a panel upgrade. The website states that the Sport 10.1 doesnt have a built in GPS. We don't need the compliant Saf Fly GPS and will eventually fit a Garmin GPS175 with ARINC. Does GRT offer a less expensive GPS like those in the Sport EX that can be used with Sport 10.1?

For ADSB In we will be using Stratux on a Raspberry Pi that has GPS connected to Sport 10.1 via serial port. Would that GPS data be transmitted on the serial line to the EFIS along with the weather and traffic info and serve as the GPS for the Sport 10.1?

Thanks

We had other modules a long time ago but only the Safe-Fly now.

The Stratux and other standard receivers send some limited GPS data as part of the traffic interface. The EFIS can use this if you turn on SET MENU, Display Unit Maintenance, "Advanced ADS-B Receiver Settings", and then configure SET MENU, General Setup, "GPS from ADS-B Receiver". Note that it can include time, but not date, so it will not fully set the EFIS clock.
