Save GPS Serial Data?

In "Display Unit Settings", I see an option to, "Save GPS Serial Data."
Mine is disabled. What is this? What's it do? What does it affect?

This setting was for troubleshooting GPS communication issues. When a GPS sends data that doesn't match the standards we support, this setting can be used to record that data for analysis. All it does is record the serial port of the GPS input to memory, and then to a file on the USB flash drive. (Change clockwise to record data. Change counterclockwise to stop recording and save the recorded data to USB.)
