Forgetting to preset MAP altitude and then pressing missed..

Post by smbohn »

If I forget to preset the MAP Altitude and then subsequently press the MISSED button, the AP displays a red box with dashes and commands a VS climb. If I jump over and set the MAP, the red box is still displayed. If I try to set the normal altitude box to a new altitude, I still have the red box. When I hit the MAP altitude the AP keeps climbing. I have to disconnect the AP to be able to set a new altitude.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? (Besides forgetting to preset the altitude.)

When you press MISSED the EFIS transfers the missed approach altitude preset to the main altitude select. Once you press MISSED without a preset the unlimited missed mode takes over. You have to use the main altitude select function to set an altitude and climb rate, which will cancel the missed mode. You have to reset the climb rate even if you want the same 500 fpm climb. (Push the right knob, set an altitude, push the right knob, set the climb rate, push the right knob and the EFIS should now use that altitude and climb rate.)
