Feature of the Week

Post by katieb »

Each week if I have time, I'll post a Feature of the Week featuring a feature that is "nice to know" but not really a fundamental function. (Sorry, it's Friday.) It is amazing just how much these little boxes can do and how many features experienced GRT pilots don't use because they don't know about them.

Look for these on the new Feature of the Week webpage. I'll link to them on the home page and in this thread too.

Flight Director

Post by katieb »

The first Feature of the Week is a neat flight aid usually found in commercial aircraft called the Flight Director. http://grtavionics.com/flightdirector.html

How to Back Up Display Unit Settings

Post by katieb »

This week we remind everyone that you can (and should) back up your display unit settings onto a USB stick. It's easy and it might save a lot of gray hairs someday. http://grtavionics.com/backupsettings.html

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Data Logging

Post by katieb »

Now that Jeff has made and released this wonderful screenshot capture "SNAP" button, I figured it was time to talk about Data Recording on your EFIS- What kinds of files you can save, how to gather them, and what to do with them. I rely on screenshots and demo files from Team AeroDynamix for making nice descriptive illustrations in the new manuals, and I'm sure you've all seen our demo files being played on our display units in the booth at Sun 'n Fun or Oshkosh. We've been playing Paul Dye's Big Bear synthetic approach in the booth for years because, well honestly, the terrain around west Michigan just isn't much to look at. This year we added Widget's aerobatic demo for some wild entertainment. Well now it's your turn to gather demo files or take still shots of your screen. You can even set up your EFIS to continually record demo files until your USB stick fills up. Try it out for me this weekend... I'm still building my airplane.

This week's feature also touches on SavvyAnalysis.com and how to utilize their wonderful free service to analyze your engine information.

If you happen to capture some interesting demo flights or screen shot "snaps" you would like to share with other GRT'ers on our website, I'd appreciate the material! Send them to me at katieb@grtavionics.com. Please limit the file size to 5 MB to avoid crashing my email. (The Feature of the Week page even tells you how to do that.) http://grtavionics.com/datarecording.html

Fly safe,
Katie

Creating & Using Checklists in your EFIS

Post by katieb »

All GRT EFIS systems have the ability to display custom checklists. They can even display parameters right on the checklist itself to avoid flipping through the ENG or PFD pages. Pretty neat! The HXr interface makes using your own checklists even easier. Check it out in this week's Feature: http://grtavionics.com/checklists.html

Attitude Adjustment

Post by katieb »

OK, so it's really late but you get a two-fer! (Not really... I just forgot to post on the Forum last week.)

Last week's FOW was how to use the Automatic Logbook feature. This week's FOW is How to Set the Pitch Ladder Offset, and using other features of the Attitude Indicator. For some reason we've had several tech questions about this today, so I figured it was a good one to write about.

Enjoy!

Importing GPX Flight Plans

Post by katieb »

Glad to be back on schedule for the Feature of the Week! Oshkosh tends to get in the way of daily life around here.

This week's Feature is a brief tutorial on how to import a GPX flight plan from your USB stick and use it in the EFIS. It's quite simple, and GPX formats are used in a variety of flight planning programs and devices. See if your favorite flight planning software can do it, and try it out! http://grtavionics.com/gpxflightplans.html

This week's Feature is a small tidbit I just wrote about for the HXr manual. It goes well with the Flight Path Marker- the Wind Vector.

Feature of the Week: SFC

Post by katieb »

This week's feature deals with a common question I get at airshows when people are looking at the Graphical Engine Display: "What's SFC?" SFC, or Specific Fuel Consumption, is a simple way to measure your engine's efficiency. Find out how to use it here: http://grtavionics.com/sfc.html
