Oil Temp Sensor

My oil temp reads 59 deg and doesnt move. The troubleshooting guide says that this indicates an open circuit or perhaps the sensor is not compatible with the EIS unit. I have the two wire sensor but changed from the EIS 6000 to the R66. I think this means that the two wire sensor is no longer compatible and I need the single wire model, correct? If so, then I would also need to amend the wiring to permit the excitation voltage with a 301 ohm resistor as well correct?

The oil temperature input on the EIS is designed for specific sensors and it doesn't use any resistors or excitation connections. Most EIS units have oil temperature inputs made for the FT-LC-02, which have a single wire. These EIS units have "V" after the first numbers in their software (SW) label, like "66V". If your EIS 6000 was a "66S" then it would have used the two-wire FT-LC-01. As far as I know all R66 are made as 66V, so the R66 couldn't use that sensor. The new sensor would wire to the EIS the same, directly to the EIS oil temp input without any resistors or excitation, but it would not have a ground wire. Instead the FT-LC-02 grounds through the case of the sensor, normally through the engine. For that reason you need to avoid electrically isolating all of the threads.
